The expressions behind the faces
When paintings are books that tell stories
Capturing the essence of faces, freezing them forever in an expression is never easy. That’s why for me the most important work happens when the canvas is still white. If I only have a photo in my hand of the person to portray, without knowing anything about that person, I begin to imagine their background, what happened to them, why they have that particular expression in that photo. And before starting to portray them I tell myself their story. Each of us has a story to tell and my paintings are their book.
